🧶 Threads of Kindness: Knitting Club Weaves Connec8on across Generations
Every Wednesday lunchtime, seven dedicated church members quietly transform a classroom at Lhanbryde Primary School into a space of creativity, calm and care. Their voluntary knitting club has welcomed around 18 senior end-of-primary school pupils over the past 15 months. While they teach the basics of garter stitch, casting off and decreasing, they nurture much more than knitting skills.
Children have created little mice, blanket squares, headbands and purses. What couldn’t be finished in time was lovingly completed by the adult volunteers in their own hours.
Together, the group crafted six beautiful knee rugs that were proudly presented in a June school assembly to residents and staff from Anderson’s Care Home. The blankets were received with heartfelt gratitude. That day, children stepped forward with confidence to model their handiwork.
For many, the club had become a haven – a place of patient guidance, quiet encouragement and gentle companionship. Teachers note how pupils gradually relax, open up and flourish. Some share stories. Others simply enjoy the peace of stitching side by side. In a world that often moves quickly, this humble club stands out for its steady rhythm and generous spirit. It’s become a much-valued part of school life –offering skill-building, connection and a warm welcome to all who drop in.
